When the most High came down and confused the tongues, He divided the nations; But when he distributed the tongues of fire He called all to unity. Therefore, with one voice, we glorify the All-holy Spirit!
— Kontakion Hymn for Holy Pentecost
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
— Acts 2:1-6, KJV
As we prepare for the Holy Feast of Pentecost, we are reminded of the important need that OCTS seeks to fulfill.
Today, quality Orthodox literature exists in many different languages. But while clergy and laypeople around the world share in a common spiritual struggle, language barriers often make them unable to hear the Holy Spirit through the voices of other Orthodox Christians. We hope to continue the work of Pentecost by supporting the translation of Orthodox texts, in order to provide contemporary Orthodox Christians the opportunity to meet the voices of Orthodox giants, both past and present, from all around the world.
This is why we are grateful and excited to have made the wisdom of a holy monk from Serbia and Montenegro available in English, educational material for young children available in Spanish, and to be nearing completion of perhaps the first-ever Orthodox text in Icelandic.
If you wish to help OCTS in this Pentecost-inspired work, please pray for us. And of course, your donation of any amount goes a long way in helping us achieve this goal.
Blessed Feast of Pentecost!
