Report from the Second-Ever Board Retreat & Strategy Meeting

O Mother of the living God, accept from us our farewell praise, and cover us with thy light-giving divine grace, granting victory to the king and peace to thy Christ-loving people; and to us who sing to thee, forgiveness and the salvation of our souls.

— Ninth Ode of the Second Dormition Canon, Tone IV

As Orthodox Christians around the world remember the Dormition of the Theotokos, we joyously add our voices to the refrains of thanksgiving for her continual prayers and assistance. Not without reason do we conclude our board meetings with a hymn to the Theotokos, and as recent events demonstrate, never has she ceased to intercede and assist on our behalf!

By God's grace, the OCTS Board of Directors recently held an all-day retreat and strategic planning meeting at St. John Orthodox Church in Memphis, Tennessee. Being only the second in-person retreat since our inception, for many of us this was our first time to meet all our fellow laborers face to face. While this provided ample opportunity for laughter and fellowship, it also allowed us to dive deep into our brainstorming and strategy sessions as we deliberated the future of the organization.

The end result? A renewed excitement about what lies ahead, a crystallized vision about where we are going, and a strengthened resolve to develop the systems necessary to catalyze the growth of our current and future projects.

For example, during the retreat the Board of Directors discussed:

  • Multiple new translation projects in the works, for both adults and children.

  • The future release of our first-ever audio book.

  • Adding new content to our new website, including new podcast episodes and serialized works.

  • Enhancing our collaboration and project management capabilities by implementing industry-leading software.

  • Revising our mission statement to better reflect our expanded capabilities and vision.

As we prepare for the Holy Feast of Pentecost, we are reminded of the important need that OCTS seeks to fulfill.

Today, quality Orthodox literature exists in many different languages. But while clergy and lay people around the world share in a common spiritual struggle, language barriers often make them unable to hear the Holy Spirit through the voices of other Orthodox Christians.
